By train

The nearest railway stations are Llantwit Major, Bridgend and Cardiff Central.

From the East - First Great Western operates direct services from London Paddington to Bridgend (approx. 2:30 hours), via Reading, Didcot Parkway, Swindon, Bristol and Cardif Central.

From the North - Bridgend can easily be reached via Birmingham (approx. 2:30 hours), Manchester (approx. 4:00 hours), Liverpool (approx. 4:15 hours).

From the South - Trains from Southampton to Bridgend take approx. 3:00 hours.

Within South Wales - Arriva Trains operates direct train services from Cardiff Central to Llantwit Major (0:40), and from Swansea to Llantwit Major via Bridgend (1:00 hours).

There will be a shuttle bus service from Bridgend train station to St Donat's on Tuesday 5th July at 15:15, and from St Donat's back to Bridgend train station on Friday 8th July at 13:30. Tickets will be £5 each way.

By plane

The nearest international airports are Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham and London Heathrow:

Trains from Cardiff Airport to Bridgend run every hour from Monday to Saturday and every two hours on Sundays.  A complimentary shuttle bus service is available for passengers with a valid train ticket, which connects with all trains to carry passengers on the short journey to the airport terminal.  Full facilities are available for passengers requiring special assistance.  For further information call: 0845 748 49 50, or visit http://www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk.  Checker Cars is the airport's official taxi operator and offers a 24 hour service.  A taxi booking office is located outside the arrivals hall.  Taxis are available on arrival or can be booked in advance by calling 01446 711747 or by e-mailing to cardiff@checkercars.com

The nearest train station to Bristol Airport is Bristol Temple Meads, approximately seven miles away. The Bristol Airport Flyer express bus service connects you from Bristol Temple Meads to the airport every 10 minutes at peak times.  Services running to/from Cardiff Central up to 2 times an hour at peak times and hourly to/from Swansea.  National Express coaches operate throughout the South West and South Wales to Bristol Bus Station where you can connect to the Bristol Airport Flyer, taking you directly to the terminal building.

Rail services operate regularly from Birmingham International to Birmingham New Street, with departures approximately every 10 minutes.  The journey takes 10 minutes on a direct train.  CrossCountry operates hourly services from Birmingham New Street to Bristol Parkway, then changing to the First Great Western service to Bridgend (coming from London Paddington), total journey time approx. 2:30 hours. 

From London Heathrow, take the Heathrow Express to Paddington Station or the RailAir coach service to Reading, and change to the First Great Western service to Cardiff and Swansea (approx. 3 hours to Bridgend).


By car

(be aware that the last part of the journey will follow very narrow country roads so please allow some extra time to take some pictures on the way and/or take the wrong turn and get lost for a while)

From London and the East (Bristol Airport)

  • Take the M4 to South Wales
  • Leave the M4 at Junction 33 (Cardiff West and Airport) and at the first major exit
  • Take the A48 towards Bridgend
  • From near Cowbridge, the College is sign-posted
  • At Pentre Meyrick, turn left and follow the road to Llantwit Major
  • Just before Llantwit Major, the route is sign-posted to the right at a traffic circle
  • Continue on the B4265 for approximately one mile
  • Turn left at the staggered junction (sign-posted) and follow the narrow farm road
  • At the next T-junction, turn left and enter through the second set of gates on your right to St Donat’s Castle and the campus (signposted by brown tourist signage)
  • Follow the driveway down to the bottom and turn right to park in the Visitor’s Car Park.

From Cardiff Airport

  • Turn left and follow the B4265 to Llantwit Major
  • Just before Llantwit Major, the route is sign-posted to the right at a traffic circle
  • Continue on the B4265 for approximately one mile
  • Turn left at the staggered junction (sign-posted) and follow the narrow farm road
  • At the next T-junction, turn left and enter through the second set of gates on your right to St Donat’s Castle and the campus (signposted by brown tourist signage)
  • Follow the driveway down to the bottom and turn right to park in the Visitor’s Car Park.

From the West

  • Leave the M4 at Junction 37 and follow the signs to the Airport
  • In Bridgend turn off the A48 to the right and onto the B4265 towards Llantwit Major and Barry
  • Pass through Ewenny, St Brides Major and Wick
  • Two miles from Wick the College is sign-posted to the right at a staggered junction
  • Follow the narrow farm road
  • At the next T-junction, turn left and enter through the second set of gates on your right to St Donat’s Castle and the campus (signposted by brown tourist signage)
  • Follow the driveway down to the bottom and turn right to park in the Visitor’s Car Park. 

 

Buses
