Webinar series

We introduced several webinar series to keep our members up to date and informed on the world of immunology during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BSI Careers in immunology series ran in the spring and summer of 2021 to offer insights into different routes you can take using the foundations and transferable skills learnt studying immunology. There are many exciting career paths beyond academia. In these webinars, we explore how to enter different career pathways, what a typical day looks like, the prospects for career development and progression, and much more.

Recordings of the webinars are available for BSI members.

The BSI Regional & Affinity Group Webinars are run by and for our Regional and Affinity Group members. We're aware that many of our Groups have had to cancel their conferences or seminar series and these webinars are intended to give our Groups an opportunity to come together and share some of the latest findings in their areas of interest.

This webinar series is free to all BSI members to watch. Non-members will be charged £10 per webinar.

Our highly popular ‘Connect on Coronavirus: the expert hub’ series aims to provide immunologists with a platform to keep informed with the latest developments on the Coronavirus outbreak by sharing relevant and timely information from expert sources. The series consists of both educational webinars looking into what we know so far about the science behind the Coronavirus and rapid response sessions to discuss significant new studies as soon as they’re made available.

As we are committed to the rapid dissemination of any information which may contribute to the understanding and treatment of COVID-19, all the webinars are free to watch.

We encourage you to spread the word to your colleagues in other disciplines.

The BSI Career Development Webinars series was held in the summer and autumn of 2020 to support our members who were looking for information on how to deal optimally with the COVID-19 situation and build their skills base. These webinars were aimed primarily at our early career members and provided attendees with information, tips and discussion points on how to deal with the new working environment and how to take the next steps on the careers ladder.

Recordings of all the webinars are available for BSI members.

BSI virtual conference

We held our first two-day virtual scientific conference ‘Connecting immunology in the time of COVID-19’ on Tuesday 1 December and Wednesday 2 December 2020. It allowed immunologists to interact, exchange ideas and hear from leading UK and international researchers in a safe environment.

The scientific committee put together an inspiring programme, highlights of which include our keynote speakers, Professor Akiko Iwasaki and Professor Garry Nolan, plenaries on COVID-19 immunology and parallel sessions on cancer immunology, immunotherapy, vaccinology and infection challenge models. We were honoured to be joined by Sir Patrick Vallance, the UK Government's Chief Scientific Adviser. You can read about the session here.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to all our speakers, presenters, chairs, sponsors and delegates who helped to make the conference a success. In total, we welcomed over 780 attendees and connected with people from 31 different countries!
