Living and working with chronic illnesses: removing barriers in academia

Hybrid – University of Oxford / online

This event is supported by the British Society for Immunology through our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion activity grant scheme and the Wellcome Trust.

The symposium will include expert scientific and non-scientific presentations, interactive sessions, and a panel discussion. The symposium will be held as a hybrid event; for participants wishing to attend in person, the event will be held at the Wellcome Centre for Human Genetics (Old Road Campus) at the University of Oxford, UK.

The aims of this symposium are to:

  • Raise awareness of the challenges faced by individuals living and working with chronic illnesses – in particular those illnesses related to immune system dysfunction or which may be secondary to infection
  • Discuss how to break down barriers for individuals with chronic illnesses in academia
  • Promote and sustain positive culture change in this area in academia and beyond and foster relevant research
