"Parasites: Friend or Foe?" is an interactive exhibit that aims to describe the variety of parasitic worms that we can encounter and how they infect humans. The exhibit will cover how the worms can influence our immune system to survive and how these mechanisms can be exploited by researchers to develop new drugs that modulate the immune system for the treatment of conditions like allergies and autoimmune diseases. Immunologists and BSI members Dr James Doonan and Dr Felicity Lumb will be on hand to answer any and all questions about helminth infections, the immune system, and a career in biomedical research.
This public engagement event is funded by a Communicating Immunology grant from the British Society for Immunology.
