Nominations are now open for the EFIS/EJI Ita Askonas Award. Since 2009, the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) together with the European Journal of Immunology (EJI) have awarded the Ita Askonas Prize to recognise female group leaders in immunology who have run an independent laboratory for a minimum of four and no more than eight years.
This award competition is open to female members of an EFIS-affiliated national society (which includes the BSI) working in a European research institution (including the UK). Candidates must have an outstanding track record of achievement in immunology. The EFIS Board will appoint an evaluation committee, which will review the nomination packages and decide upon the recipient of the prize.
This prize consists of a €20,000 cash award in addition to support to attend the European Congress of Immunology (ECI). The laureate must be prepared to present her work at the ECI.
How to apply
Nominations must be submitted by an EFIS member society. If you would like to request the BSI's support of your application for this award, please send us no more than 500 words outlining your suitability for the award by Friday 30 April 2021 for consideration by the BSI Nominations Committee.
Please submit your applications and any queries to Eolan Healy, BSI Education and Careers Officer.
If you are successful in gaining the BSI's support, you will need to provide additional information to allow us to put together a complete nomination package to submit to EFIS for the award.
