Applications are invited for the position of Editor-in-Chief Immunology

We are seeking applications for this leadership position with the prestigious journal Immunology, the official journal of the British Society for Immunology (BSI).

Immunology is a high ranking, internationally respected monthly journal, publishing significant studies and reviews that provide fundamental and mechanistic insights to the immune system.  It is well-established, having been in publication since 1958. The readership and importance of the journal has grown steadily with the current impact factor standing at 3.358 and a worldwide base of subscribers and authors.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-established global journal on its next stage of development. The successful candidate will be a leading member of the research community and will have an impressive international track record in immunology with senior editorial experience and a strong understanding of the business of publishing a journal. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate commercial knowledge of the immunology market. Above all, the successful candidate must be passionate about the journal Immunology and demonstrate a clear vision for its future growth and development.

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Broad knowledge of the international immunology field
  • The ability to support authors with their publishing objectives
  • Sound scientific judgment and willingness to make strong editorial decisions  
  • Ability to address sensitive matters diplomatically and considerately
  • Awareness of trends within knowledge dissemination and openness to new ideas  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

The main functions within this role are: strategic and practical development of the journal, maintaining high-quality editorial standards, providing strong and inspiring leadership to the journal’s Associate Editor team and Editorial Board, including appointing new members as required, and journal promotion. The Editor-in-Chief can be based in any international location but would be required to join the BSI if not already a member.

This important leadership role will require a significant time commitment on a weekly basis and will be recompensed accordingly.
