2026 marks the 70th anniversary of the British Society for Immunology. In 1956, a small, visionary group of immunologists – John Humphrey, Bob White, Robin Coombs and Av Mitchison – founded the Society with the goal of bringing immunologists together to share knowledge and best practices. What began as a modest gathering of like-minded scientists has grown into a vibrant, global community at the forefront of immunological research and innovation.
Over the past seven decades, immunology has transformed our understanding of health and disease, shaping everything from vaccines to cancer therapies. At the heart of these advances are the people who make up our community. The BSI membership has come a long way since those three founding members, but our shared vision for better health through for all through immunology remains to this day.
This year at the BSI Congress in Glasgow, we will be celebrating the many incredible achievements of the immunology community over the past 70 years.
