Statements from international immunology community on Ukraine

The British Society for Immunology would like to draw our members’ attention to the following statements from our friends at the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS) and the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) regarding the current crisis in Ukraine. The BSI wholeheartedly endorses the sentiments expressed in these statements. We would like to emphasise our support for Ukraine and its citizens and condemn the attacks on the country. We remain committed to supporting the international immunology community through our work with IUIS and EFIS.

EFIS Ukraine Mobility Initiative

In May 2022, EFIS launched a special mobility scheme to assist Ukrainian students and early career researchers active in immunology and related fields who currently are unable to work as they are forced to flee the ongoing conflict or are already abroad and cannot return home. Specifically, EFIS will finance dedicated fellowships to early career Ukrainian scientists with up to six months of support to undertake stays abroad in order to pursue their research or training in European host laboratories and institutions. Support for Ukrainian scientists and students

#ScienceForUkraine is a volunteer group collecting and disseminating information about support opportunities at the university, national, and international level for students and researchers directly affected by the crisis in Ukraine. On their website you'll find a wide range of paid academic positions for scientists (PhD student or above), academic transfer opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as temporary housing. You can also follow their Twitter account @Sci_for_Ukraine for regular updates and use the hashtag #ScienceForUkraine to share opportunities.

The EMBO has launched a list of life scientists across Europe and beyond offering to host Ukrainian researchers in their labs. This could be the provision of laboratory or office workplaces, accommodation or help in arranging further contacts. If you are in a position to offer any assistance, please consider adding yourself to the list.
