The EJI Ita Askonas Prize was established by the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) and the European Journal of Immunology (EJI) to recognise women group leaders in immunology who have run an independent laboratory for a minimum of four and no more than ten years.
This prize consists of a €20,000 cash award, plus support for travel, accommodations and registration to attend the European Congress of Immunology (ECI). The laureate must be prepared to present her work at the next ECI, taking place in Dublin on 1-4 September 2024.
This award competition is open to female members of an EFIS-affiliated National Society (such as the British Society for Immunology) working in a European research institution who have run an independent laboratory. Candidates must have an outstanding track record of achievement in immunology.
Nominations for this award may only be submitted by an EFIS member society. As the BSI is eligible to submit nominations, we are putting out this open call to members who would like to either put themselves or a colleague forward for consideration. The BSI selection of candidates to put forward for this award will be overseen by our Nominations Committee. To be considered for nomination, please email careers@immunology.org by Friday 20 October with the following information:
- A cover letter explaining how the nominee meets the criteria of the award
- A CV
- Full publications list, with title and complete citations, and evaluated according to the citation report of the ISI Web of Science (number of citations, h-factor)
- A list of the ten most important publications
The nominee must be a current BSI member. If you are nominating someone else, please make sure you have their permission before submitting the nomination. If you have any questions, please email careers@immunology.org.
