These two in-person training days are the initial part of the BSI’s Immunology Nursing Excellence Programme. Mapped against the BSI-CIPN Competency Framework for Immunology Nursing, this programme has been specifically developed to support immunology nurses working in both adult and paediatric immunology nursing – and practicing nurses with an interest in specialising in immunology – in developing their expertise in immunology and patient care.
All UK immunology nurses should attend both days in order to complete this part of the programme. This training will provide the essential foundation skills and knowledge required to treat and manage patients with a range of conditions..
The in-person training days will cover:
- The science of the immune system
- When the immune system goes wrong (immunodeficiency and pathology)
- Clinical investigations: unravelling the mystery
- Me and my diagnosis: the psychological aspects of immunodeficiency
- Putting the patient at the centre: care and management of immunodeficiency
- My clinical area – how we do things around the UK
- Monitoring: what, how, when and why?
- Rare diseases: building knowledge and providing care
- Home treatment and self-administration
- Training for nurses teaching patients to self-administer for home therapy
In addition to lectures and workshops on the above topics, in-person training days will also include Q&A sessions with senior nurse practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists, and offer the rare opportunity to meet with immunology nurses from across the UK, share knowledge and build relationships.
