BSI Career Enhancing Grants awardees May 2026

A vital part of our mission is supporting immunologists throughout their careers, building connections within the immunology community and raising the profile of immunology. The British Society for Immunology is proud to announce the members who successfully obtained funding in the latest round of the BSI Career Enhancing Grant scheme. We are delighted to provide them with an extra level of support to benefit their careers.   

Many congratulations to the members who have been awarded funding in this round – we are thrilled to be able to support your career development! Over £28,000 has been awarded to 8 BSI members, contributing to research projects across immunology. You can read the full list of projects that have been awarded funding below.   

Through this offering, we hope to continue building a strong immunology workforce that drives innovation and provides life-saving benefits to all.

Dr Julia Salafranca, University of Oxford – Decoding neutrophil heterogeneity in juvenile idiopathic arthritis using spatial transcriptomics 

Dr Noelle Pisacano, Imperial College London – Investigating neutrophil lipid dysregulation in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease 

Dr Martin Majer, University of York – Detailed look into Schistosoma mansoni - human interactome: searching for novel cytokine and chemokine-binding proteins 

Dr Stephane Guillaume, University of Manchester – Generating preliminary emphysema mouse data for Wellcome Trust Early Career Researcher grant application 

Dr Christopher Thorpe, European Molecular Biology Laboratory – Beyond single epitopes: yeast display data generation to illuminate molecular rules of cross reactivity 

Dr Clíodhna Daly, University of Glasgow – Leveraging S. aureus induced γδ+ TRM cells against influenza infection 

Dr Eimear Rutherford, Imperial College London – Decoding epithelial-fibroblast crosstalk in airway wall remodelling 

Dr Manuel Sanchez Garcia, University of Edinburgh – Neutrophil reprogramming by stroke

How to apply for our Career Enhancing Grant 

Applications for the next grant round will close in September 2026. We are currently accepting applications. 

There are two application deadlines per year, one in September and one in March.
