At the British Society for Immunology, we work to ensure the public benefit from the successes of immunology. A key part of this is supporting the uptake of vaccination, as well as providing reliable, evidence-based information on vaccines and immunity to the public.
At some of life’s most important moments, having clear, trustworthy information makes all the difference. That's why we have created a free, easy to read guide to vaccinations during pregnancy, designed to empower expectant parents with vital knowledge, answer practical questions, and offer reassurance about vaccine safety and effectiveness.
The guide explains how the immune system changes during pregnancy, which vaccines are offered by the NHS, and how they protect both you and your baby during pregnancy and beyond. It also features simple visual guides that clearly show how vaccines work and what ingredients they contain, making the information accessible to everyone.
This guide is endorsed by IMPRINT, the Immunising Pregnant Women and Infants Network. IMPRINT aims to build a sustainable network of researchers, industry, public health and policy makers, to tackle the challenges in the best use of vaccines in pregnancy and in newborns, and in the long term to improve maternal and newborn health.
This guide was created in July 2025 and is accurate at the time of publishing. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
